ED-Furuike "haiku" Oil Painting

Little Bio of Ed-Furuike!

Ed Furuike, born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. He began painting in 1975 studying with renowned Hawaii artist the late Hiroshi Tagami who encouraged him to continue painting using only a palette knife. Inspiration for most of his work is drawn from the Islands and some from his journeys to Europe and Japan. Soon his plein air and studio paintings began attracting the eyes of collectors from all over the world, initially at the Honolulu Zoo Fence Art and subsequently through various art exhibitions in Hawaii and California.

In 1988, he began promoting art awareness through teaching art classes, group and solo exhibitions, and art expositions, as well as art demonstrations at public schools. Ed always tells his students, 'Paint with your soul...and with passion.'

Moving to California in 2001, Ed soon found much acceptance of his work though galleries and solo exhibitions in San Francisco, Sausalito, Tiburon, St. Helena and Napa Valley. Returning to Hawaii in 2007, he currently lives on the windward side of Oahu, where the Ko*olau Mountains continue to inspire his creativity.

Having painted over 4,000 paintings, many of Ed*s paintings hang in prominent corporate and private collections in Hawaii and throughout the world. His painting of lei is on the cover of the Hawaii history book titled *A History of Hawaii* used in the public schools. One of his koi paintings hang in the lobby of the South Korean Embassy in South Korea. Giclees of his Na Pali Coast painting hang in the lobby and numerous guest rooms of the Westin Princeville on Kauai.

Today Ed conducts palette knife painting classes in Honolulu and his work can be seen in the galleries listed below. Painting and teaching have expanded his world tremendously, enriching his journey in relationships with nature and people through experiences which he treasures always. He has been very fortunate in finding what he absolutely loves to do. 'Through art, I found my joy!*
